On our last visit a few years ago, it was a bit Spartan. The recent makeover is excellent and has made a huge difference. It’s now a hotel worthy of its special location. We loved it.

I expected a local hotel near the d-day beaches with clean rooms and a restaurant. Exactly this offered the hotel. Btw the restaurant was superb.

Le Grand Hôtel de la Marine is perfectly situated in the picturesque and charming port town of Port-en-Bessin-Huppain. The hotel is located by the harbor, where there is plenty of activity from fishing boats constantly sailing in and out, adding to the town's lively atmosphere. This makes the town an ideal base for longer stays, with opportunities, to explore the D-Day beaches, museums, and nearby towns. The hotel's terrace is undoubtedly the best spot in town to enjoy the sunset, offering an unobstructed view of the horizon. The staff help is to find a place to our bikes.

The hotel is very smart and right on the outer harbour. Reception staff were very welcoming, friendly and had a good spot to store our bikes. The room was extremely comfortable with a big bed and a modern bathroom. When we arrived the owner upgraded us to a sea view so we looked out over the harbour. Although the hotel is in the town it was very quiet at night and we slept well. The food in the restaurant was very good in the evening.
